Mead-Tooker House Bed & Breakfast
Step Back in Time into a World of Warmth and Charm
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this wonderful house was built in stages starting in the late 1700's in the tranquil historic village of Montgomery, New York. It is actually three houses attached and is now one grand house sitting majestically on top of the hill on Clinton Street. The Mead-Tooker House is located right in the center of the village, across the street from Village Hall, which was the Montgomery Academy in the early 1800's. Jacob Tooker was Headmaster of the Academy in 1828 and he owned and lived in the house. In the 1860's it was sold to W.J. Mead, hence the name of the house. Your hostess, Nancy Michaels, has carefully decorated the entire house with period furnishings and antiques. The dining room, patio and yard, guest parlor, and foyer are open for your enjoyment. The guest parlor is furnished with cable television, a courtesy phone, a game table, a working fireplace, and very comfortable seating for reading or relaxing. We serve a full homemade breakfast in our dining room. There are eight tastefully decorated guestrooms, four with private bathrooms, and the other four sharing two bathrooms. All of our rooms are air conditioned, and most have working fireplaces. Two of the guestrooms are very romantic suites in a secluded area of the house, providing the ultimate level of luxury and privacy.
Nancy has been collecting and selling antiques for nearly forty years and has an antique shop on the premises. She has dedicated a lot of time and care to the décor of the house and you will notice and appreciate this attention to detail when you arrive. Everything is purposefully arranged and displayed. It is her hope that you will be comfortable and feel at home in the peaceful and nostalgic environment she has created here.
In the back of the house is a brick and stone patio looking out over the pond and waterfall (with fish) and beautiful gardens. Very private and serene, just relax and listen to the sound of the water, it's great. Nancy designed this for your total pleasure.
Indoors or out, we are capable of hosting your small weddings, parties, and events. We can accommodate up to 50 people inside and 75 people outside, and can provide you with many options and ideas for organizing your event. We also offer the option of renting the entire house for your wedding weekend, reunion, or other special event.
